Casino di Venezia seeks new lustre with relaunch - Friday 14th of October 2005

Strange, but true. For over a year the piano nobile of the Casino di Venezia in Vittoriosa, with its beautiful vaulted ceilings, huge chandeliers from Murano and brocade wall hangings, and with such a beautiful view from the balcony, stood completely empty and unused.

The new management, which has been brought over by the Casino di Venezia mother company in Italy, headed by Marco Battaggia, is determined to change all that.

The whole place is in the throes of upheaval and change as the slot machines and gaming tables are all being relocated to the piano nobile on the first floor. The ground floor is being changed into a bar and lounge while the restaurant on the top floor will have live music in a bid to attract more patrons.

This is only the beginning, Mr Battaggia said. The company has other plans in the pipeline. The number of gaming tables will also be increased with the inclusion of a chemin de fer. Meanwhile, the mother company is still open to any offers from potential purchasers.

With the removal of direct access to the restaurant, a Maltese must be over 25 and a foreigner over 18 to access any part of the building.
