Jordan admits gambling mistakes - Friday 21st of October 2005

NBA legend Michael Jordan has admitted his famed love of gambling has got him into "stupid" situations in the past.

But Jordan, who led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA titles in the 1990s, told 60 Minutes on CBS that betting never jeopardised his livelihood or family.

"Ive gotten myself into situations where I would not walk away and Ive pushed the envelope," he said.

"Its embarrassing, one of the things you totally regret. You look in the mirror and say I was stupid"."

Jordan attributed his love of gambling to his "drive to win".

He said: "I want to go out on a limb and win, and sometimes that can take you past the stage where you know you should probably take a step back from.

Jordan retired in April 2003 after making a comeback with the Washington Wizards.

The 42-year-old, five times the NBAs Most Valuable Player, has a new book out entitled Driven from Within.
