Harrahs Entertainment, Keppel Land Team Up With Centre Pompidou - Saturday 22nd of October 2005

Harrahs Entertainment, Inc. and Singapore partner Keppel Land have entered into a strategic alliance with the Centre Pompidou of Paris, France, one of the worlds leading cultural institutions.

Centre Pompidou will assist Harrahs and Keppel in creating a cultural center within a proposed integrated resort in the Republic of Singapore. Pompidous center, to be designed by world-renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, will complement Harrahs and Keppels vision of a world-class resort with first-rate entertainment, outstanding convention facilities and a host of other attractions.

Announced October 18 in Singapore, the proposal drew a significant amount of favorable coverage from Singapores news media. The announcement follows another recent announcement that Harrahs and Keppel will work with worldwide convention management specialist SMG to develop a world-class convention facility as another key component of their integrated resort proposal.

"Singapore is already recognized as one of the leading centers for Southeast Asian arts and culture," said Bruno Racine, president of Centre Pompidou. "We are delighted to assist our partners in creating a center for the arts that will add a new, more international dimension to the rich heritage already present here."

Centre Pompidou highlighted the unique nature of the cultural center, noting that it will draw upon all aspects of modern art, including film, photography, sculpture, painting, and other mediums, and will also incorporate unique aspects of the arts community in Singapore.

"The arts and culture experience we are planning with the Centre Pompidou and Daniel Libeskind will bring to life Singapores vision of fostering a strong sense of community and participation through arts and cultural resources," said Richard Mirman, senior vice president for business development for Harrahs. "Through its strong connections, expertise and reputation in the international arts market, the Singapore Center will be pivotal in creating a vibrant and unique artistic scene."

With its rich collection of modern and contemporary art, a vast public library, extensive documentation on 20th century art, cinemas and performance halls, a music research institute, and educational activity areas, Centre Pompidou brings together all forms of contemporary culture. Since its opening in 1977 and renovation in 2000, the Centre Pompidou has become one of the most visited attractions in France. Some 5.3 million people pass through its doors each year, and more than 150 million visitors have visited it since its opening 28 years ago. For more information, visit: http://www.cnac-gp.fr/
