MGM Mirage Exec Honored at the 14th Annual Trumpet Awards - Friday 27th of January 2006

LAS VEGAS – Lorenzo Creighton, President and COO of MGM Mirage's New York-New York Hotel and Casino, was among the outstanding honorees at the 14th Annual Trumpet Awards held in Atlanta yesterday at the Georgia World Congress Center. The Trumpet Awards highlight the accomplishments of African Americans in business, law, public service and entertainment.

As the first and only African American to lead a property on the Las Vegas Strip, Creighton was honored for his role in establishing the gaming industry in the State of Mississippi, and his contribution to realizing opportunities for African Americans in the hotel and gaming industry nationwide.

"It is an honor and a privilege to be counted among the luminaries who comprise the Trumpet Awards' list of achievers," said Creighton. "This award is a nod to the growing presence of African Americans in the gaming industry."

With more than sixteen years in the gaming industry, Creighton's professional background is quite diverse. He served as a high school teacher, an attorney, and a judge. These experiences ultimately led him to a job in an untraditional field as a gaming regulator.

Prior to assuming his role as President of New York-New York Hotel and Casino in April 2005, Creighton held executive positions at Lady Luck in Natchez, Miss.; The President Casino in St Louis, Mo.; and Bally's Casino in New Orleans, La. He took the helm as a casino president in 2002 when he joined the Flamingo Hilton in Las Vegas, where he successfully led the property through much of its renovation efforts.

Annually the Trumpet Awards honors African-American achievements in diverse fields including law, business, politics, medicine and entertainment. Honorees of the 2006 Trumpet Awards are: Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Stevie Wonder, Danny Bakewell, Usher, Reverend C.T. Vivian, Justice Leah Ward Sears, Dr. Bobby Jones, Vivica A. Fox, Lorenzo Creighton and Dr. Keith Black. The 2006 Trumpet Awards will be broadcast on TV One March 5, 2006. Tapes of the ceremony will be made available to public schools throughout the country.
