Super Bowl to Boost Detroit Gaming Revenue - Sunday 29th of January 2006

DETROIT, Michigan – As reported by the Detroit News: "As Super Bowl fans party in Detroit next week, thousands will be betting on more than having a good time at football's biggest spectacle.

"Gaming experts predict the Super Bowl will generate as much as $12 million in additional gambling revenue compared with a normal winter week for the four casinos in and near Detroit.

"That means a big boost for casino coffers and for Detroit and Michigan, which will collect a combined 24 percent in taxes on all revenues bet in Detroit's three gambling houses.

"'We're anticipating bigger crowds,' said Roger Martin, a spokesman for Greektown Casino, the closest gaming house to Ford Field, the site of Super Bowl XL.

"…Along with Greektown, other casinos in the area include MGM Grand Detroit and MotorCity Casino, both in Detroit, and Casino Windsor, across the Detroit River in Ontario.

"…MGM plans no special Super Bowl activities, said spokesman Bob Berg, largely because the NFL won't allow businesses that are not licensed vendors to use the 'Super Bowl' name or logo in promotions during game week.

"But Greektown, MotorCity and Casino Windsor want to cater to the 100,000 visitors expected for the National Football League's championship game. All are hosting activities tied to Super Bowl week and expect to be busy 24/7…"
