Bellagio to Present Ansel Adams Exhibit - Sunday 26th of March 2006

LAS VEGAS – The Bellagio Gallery of Fine Artannounced today plans to present an exhibition featuring nearly 50 masterworksby American photography's most recognized and beloved figure, Ansel Adams.The exhibition entitled Ansel Adams: America, which will be on viewMay 3, 2006 to May 6, 2007, will include an impressive collection of legendaryartworks based on a selection personally chosen by Adams before his death,which he considered among the most important and iconic images of his epiccareer.

Among these: Monolith, Face of Half Dome, Yosemite National Park,California (1927), Rose and Driftwood, San Francisco (ca. 1933), Aspens, Dawn,Autumn, Dolores River Canyon, Colorado (1937), The Tetons and the Snake River,Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming (1942), and a rare image of Boulder Dam(1941). These works trace four decades of Adams' experimentation with blackand white photography and how it could reveal the mysterious beauty of theAmerican landscape both subtle and majestic.

Important selections from Adam's archive will also be on view. Amongthem: album pages of some of Adams' earliest photographs (1916), the 8 x 10Kodak camera Adams used to create his iconic photographs, an album ofnegatives from 1932, Adams' Swiss compass used on his photographicexpeditions, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, awarded to Adams by PresidentCarter in 1980, and personal correspondence from some of the most notedfigures of the twentieth century. Complementing these objects will be aseries of historical photographs from 1903 to 1983 that will serve as a visualbiography of Adams' life.

Ansel Adams: America has been organized exclusively for the BellagioGallery of Fine Art by the Center for Creative Photography (CCP) at theUniversity of Arizona in Tucson. The CCP, co-founded by Ansel Adams in 1975,holds the largest repository of Adams photographs in the world and is anarchive, museum, and research institution, dedicated to photography as an artform and cultural record. The CCP holds more archives and individual works by20th-century American photographers than any other museum in the nation.
