Powerball Jackpot Hits $116 Million - Sunday 23rd of July 2006
UNITED STATES – Even though the grand prize was nothit Wednesday evening, Powerball paid off BIG in multiple ways. One luckyticket won $800,000 with the Power Play option in Indiana! In addition, sixother lucky tickets won $200,000 for matching 5 white ball numbers in thestates of Iowa (1), Louisiana (1), Maine (1), Minnesota (1), Montana (1),and New Mexico (1).
The jackpot for the Saturday, July 22nd drawing will be $116 millionwith the cash option at $52.9 million.
The numbers drawn Wednesday evening were 2, 32, 38, 44, 50, and thePowerball was 21. The Power Play multiplier was 4.
Forty-three tickets matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won$10,000. Ten additional players of that prize level wisely purchased thePower Play and had their prize multiplied by 4 for a $40,000 cash win! Atotal of 617,961 players across the nation won more than $7.1 million inprizes playing America's favorite game.
More than 105,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prize by 4Wednesday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play optionfor $1. With Power Play you multiply your Powerball winnings from 2-5times, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel isspun to select that night's multiplier.
Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even ifthere are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winnersat other prize levels.
Players purchased more than $26.4 million in tickets between Sunday andWednesday night.
The lotteries sold $2.8 billion in Powerball tickets in fiscal year2006. That translates into over $800 million for worthwhile state projects.
Powerball is now played in 29 states, the District of Columbia, and theU.S. Virgin Islands.
