Powerball Jackpot Rises to $135 Million - Monday 24th of July 2006
UNITED STATES – The Powerball jackpot continues togrow! Even though the grand prize was not awarded Saturday, one luckyticket in Iowa won $800,000 with Power Play. A total of 707,387 playersacross the nation won more than $6.5 million in prizes in America's Game.
Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Saturday's drawingthe jackpot will grow to an estimated $135 million.
The cash option for the Wednesday, July 26th drawing will be anestimated $61.5 million.
The numbers drawn Saturday evening were 14, 40, 47, 54, 55 and thePowerball was 6. The Power Play multiplier was 4.
Three tickets correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $200,000.Their winning tickets were purchased in Indiana, Pennsylvania, andTennessee. The lucky ticket in Iowa, not only matched the 5 white numbers,but also purchased the Power Play option multiplying the $200,000 prize by4 for a total win of $800,000!
Thirty-six tickets matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won$10,000. Five additional winners of that prize category also purchased thePower Play option, giving them a total win of $40,000.
More than 118,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prize by 4Saturday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option forone dollar. With Power Play you multiply your Powerball winnings 2-5 times,except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun toselect that night's multiplier.
Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even ifthere are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winnersat other prize levels.
Players purchased more than $30.1 million worth of tickets betweenThursday and Saturday night. The lotteries sold $2.8 billion in Powerballtickets in FY06. That translates into more than $800 million for worthwhilestate projects.
Powerball is now played in 29 states, the District of Columbia, and theU.S. Virgin Islands.
