Guests Feel Safer With Wynn Security Dogs On Premises - Thursday 12th of May 2005

Their names are pure Las Vegas: Jackpot, Ace, and Casino, but their job is far from fun and games. At the Wynn Resort, a kennel full of bomb sniffing dogs is on duty to keep guests safe. News 3's Denise Rosch tells us how customers are responding to the very visible security team.

You might think it would be intimidating to see security dogs walking the casino floor, but not at Wynn. Guests absolutely love it. While their job is deadly serious in this post 9/11 world, the dogs are the only ones who don't seem to know it.There is no such thing as off-limits for the K-9 staff at Wynn. Seven days a week, you'll find the team roaming all areas of the 2.7 billion dollar resort.

Their assignment is to sniff out explosives and protect the guests. "They understand it's a game. If they really knew what they were doing, they wouldn't want to play any more."Ann Vanderhoof is the detail supervisor. She says the dogs trained for months inside the hotel before it ever opened to the public, learning the layout and elevators, becoming familiar with their new home."September 11th changed the world we live in. We're here to keep everyone safe at Mr. Wynn's hotel." Which means keeping the dogs happy.

Their private kennel is a 500 thousand dollar, climate controlled enclosure. The head of security at Wynn is the former Sheriff of Clark County, so he understands the value of a good K-9 unit, but he tells us the dogs were entirely Steve Wynn's idea.
