Dodge City casino to open in mid-December - Wednesday 9th of December 2009

The new Dodge City casino is slated to open in mid-December, the developer said Wednesday.

A specific date wasn’t offered.

“Boot Hill Casino and Resort is on schedule for a mid-December opening. This is an exciting time for Dodge City, southwest Kansas and the entire state of Kansas,” said Clark Stewart, president and CEO of Butler National Corp., in a news release.

The Boot Hill Casino will be the first casino to open under the state’s 2007 expanded gambling law that allows casinos in four areas of the state.

In Dodge, Butler National has constructed a gaming floor with 584 electronic gaming machines and 12 tables games. The facility also has a restaurant, saloon, snack bar and gift shop.

It is expected to employ more than 250.

Elsewhere in Kansas, casino plans are either just starting to move forward or stalled altogether.

The Kansas Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board on Tuesday approved a proposal by Penn National Gaming Inc. and a partner for a facility in Wyandotte County. In Sumner County, a development group asked that its casino plan be put on hold to renegotiate its contract with the state.

And a developer has yet to emerge in Crawford and Cherokee counties in southeast Kansas.
