Missouri casino workers happier than most - Tuesday 12th of July 2005

Missouri casino workers apparently are happier in their jobs than the general population, according to a study the Missouri Riverboat Gaming Association released Tuesday.

The survey of more than 4,000 workers at the states 11 casinos found that 82 percent of those surveyed said their jobs represented positive career moves, the association said.

About 79 percent of respondents said they were more satisfied with the people and surroundings in their casino jobs than in their previous jobs.

The findings compare favorably with Job Forecast for the second quarter of 2005. That study, conducted by job search site CareerBuilder.com, found that 57 percent of employees and 55 percent of hospitality workers were satisfied with their jobs.

Compensation and benefits received high marks in the study, in which 75 percent of respondents said their wages were as good or better than previous jobs and 67 percent said they enjoyed medical benefits that were better or as good as in previous jobs.

Formed in 1993, the Missouri Riverboat Gaming Association is the statewide trade association of the states casino industry. Missouris 11 casinos, which employ an estimated 11,000 workers, include three in the St. Louis area: Ameristar Casino St. Charles, Harrahs Casino and Hotel and the President Casino.
