Pay deal halts casino strike threat - Tuesday 12th of July 2005

AROUND 200 Glasgow casino workers have voted to accept a pay offer, avoiding a strike which could have rocked the UKs gaming industry.

Staff at the city branch of Stanley Casinos in Sauchiehall Street were among 2000 employees to accept the 3.5% or £600-a-year offer.

The workers had been amongst the first to vote for action in Britains first consultative strike ballot of casino workers after rejecting their bosses previous offer of 3.2%. Pay will be backdated to May 1 2005.

The Stanley group, which operates casinos in 41 UK towns and cities including Edinburgh generated £26million profits last year.

Stanley recently sold off its 624 betting shops for £505million. AROUND 200 Glasgow casino workers have voted to accept a pay offer, avoiding a strike which could have rocked the UKs gaming industry.
