Do not cover up bird flu cases: Susilo - Tuesday 12th of July 2005

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono asked on Sunday Minister of Health Siti Fadilah Supari to make public the results of laboratory tests related to the deaths of three people in Tangerang, Banten, in two or three days.

"The cause of their deaths must be made clear and explained to the public. It should not be covered up," the President said.

Siti said on Friday that bird flu may have caused the death of Iwan Siswara Rapei, 38. But his two young daughter Sabrina Nurul Aisyah, 9, and Thalita Nurul Azizah, 1 -- who also died -- tested negative. The three died in the past ten days.

The ministry has sent samples of Rafei`s and Sabrina`s blood and feces to the bird flu laboratory in Hong Kong.

Susilo asked the public to remain calm, saying the case had been localized.
