PALMER TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania As reported by the The Express-Times: "Harness racing and slots would join thoroughbred racing at the horse track proposed for the township, under plans announced Thursday.
"Both styles at the track could mean as many as 210 to 225 days of racing a year at the northern Palmer Township track, being called Freedom Park.
"The Freedom Park company, 100% Purses Inc., announced plans to apply for a standardbred, or harness-racing, license in addition to the thoroughbred license it seeks.
"Whoever gets Pennsylvania's lone outstanding standardbred license will be the only track eligible for the state's seventh and final Category 1 slots license.
"...The 100% Purses decision to pursue harness racing and the racino license came after the company decided against seeking a stand-alone casino license, company President Joe Santanna said Thursday..."
