Quebec Casino Plan Gets Slammed
QUEBEC – As reported by the Montreal Gazette: "Loto-Quebec is having a bad week.
"A day after public health officials slammed plans to move the Montreal Casino to the Peel Basin from Ile Notre Dame, the Point St. Charles community clinic yesterday asked the Quebec government to reject the project.
"The clinic says the neighbourhood already deals with enough problems and cannot cope with a rise in problem gambling, poverty and crime that could be created by having a casino near homes and businesses.
"…Studies show the Point already has twice as many problem gamblers (4.7 per cent) as the Quebec average (2.3 per cent), he noted…"
