Twitter Allowed at WSOP 2010

The WSOP have updated their rules regarding cell phone use for the 2010 series. Previously poker players were banned from using their phones for any purpose while seating at the table but now, while players must adhere to the same rules whilst involved in a hand, anybody not involved in a live hand (cards in the muck) may use their phones to send texts messages and even update their twitter accounts.

Players who wish to talk on their phones must be at least one table length away from the play before making or accepting voice calls.

As the majority of big name poker players are also twitter users the news of the new rules was warmly welcomed earlier today.

A rule which will follow on from 2009 with be the WSOP logo policy. That rule dictates that players should not wear logos that advertise any online gaming site that conducts business with U.S. residents or logos that are obscene, pornograpic or libelous alongside any logos that promote drugs, handguns or lotteries.

Players that don’t show up to any WSOP 2010 event or turn up after the third level of play will fall foul of the new “no show” rule. That rule states; “These players will have their chips removed from play and will not be eligible to participate in that event. The buy-ins for ‘no shows’ will be removed from the prize pool and placed on safekeeping in that player’s name at the main WSOP registration cage after the second level of play.”
