Police again arrest member of Polish gang of frauds
Czech police have recently detained a member of a Polish gang of frauds whom they first arrested in August along with another Pole but had to release him due to their own mistake, a north Moravian police spokeswoman said.
The 43-year-old man persisted in the same criminal activity, the spokeswoman said, adding that police were investigating the participation of another detained man in the crimes.
Both Poles who had scammed casino operators depriving them of large sums of money were arrested shortly after one of their successful machinations.
The man, who has been taken into custody, was first arrested in August, jointly with an accomplice. However, they had to be released shortly after the detention due to mistakes made by the police. Police failed to ensure a written translation of the charges and a Karvina District Court judge thus refused to rule that they should be taken into custody. The two policemen responsible have received a disciplinary reprimand.
Both Poles and their four accomplices, who had managed to escape from the police, had gradually returned home. However, two of them then returned to the Czech Republic and started with their fraudulent activity again. Czech police arrested them on November 22. Shortly before the detention, the 34-year-old suspect deprived a casino of 24,000 crowns using a scam.
"Police convicted them of fraud in three other cases. He acted in the same way in casinos in Cesky Tesin, Bucovice and in Frydlant nad Ostravici and deprived the casino operators of a total 84,000 crowns," the police spokeswoman said, adding that the activities of his accomplice were being checked.
In all, the gang had six members aged from 23 to 39.
